FOLLOW (2017,12)

INTERACTIVE LIGHT INSTALLATION

Follow (2017.12) is an interactive light installation. The idea of this project came from birds. Birds use sounds and motions to find their ways or seduce other birds. In this project, people can follow birds to explore space. It's a communication method between people and birds.

Thinking about the exhibition space for this project, I needed a darkroom to show lights.

This was inspired by Etienne-Jules Marey, and his book Picturing Time. It used his chronophotography as an art form, and added some bird animations and interactive experiences.

Materials I used were LEDs, wires, Arduino Unos, speakers, distance sensors, SD cards, SD card drivers, and breadboards. There was a problem with making a light to fill in the whole bird shape. I tried many kinds of LEDs out, those did not work. Finally, I found an LED backlight module which is a 45mm*86mm LED board. It was a good scale of light for this project.
